Annual Meeting Jan 18th, 2014

Johnstown Community Center

The address is 9937 E. County Trunk A Janesville, WI 53545

10:00 AM – ? (Please note this is the correct time)

We will need people to help set up and clean up

Bring your ideas and a dish to pass.

Don’t forget to bring your calendar, a pen and your rides with the dates you’d like to host.

Please visit the website calendar prior to the meeting. It would be helpful to add those dates to your own calendar before the meeting.

Our club is big enough and spread out enough to have multiple events on the same date. If you want to host a day ride, camp trip or event. Any member can do so. Email me what, when and where and we’ll add it to the calendar. You don’t have to wait until the meeting to do so.

As a matter of fact, I encourage you to do so now through email 2herdmare@gmail.com and get it on the calendar prior to the meeting!

Hags on Nags Book Club

It’s too darn cold to trailride! Why not find some adventure in a good book? If you love the old west and find inspiration from strong women characters, then check this out! The Whip, by Karen Kondazian, is an award winning historical fiction endorsed by Oprah, among others. Inspired by the true story of an amazing woman, Charlotte “Charley” Parkhurst, (1812-1879) the reviews echo the same sentiment…“amazing, gripping, and completely captivating. I, literally, couldn’t put it down.” Even if you are not a person who would typically go for a historical/Western style novel, you’ll be inspired by the emotion and determination in this story.

Here’s how the HON book club will work:

The first moderator will select a meeting spot and date (in this case, late January/ early February) to get together to discuss the book and socialize. Members are encouraged to read the book and attend the event in person, but if that is not feasible, you can be included via a computer. A new book will be selected and the next moderator will choose the meeting spot, etc. So it doesn’t really matter where you live as long as you have the desire to pass the winter months with a good book and some socializing. Every effort will be made to find a location convenient for those that are interested, but virtual participation is also option. This will probably go through the month of April and ideas are welcomed.

The Whip by Karen Kondazian is available at most public libraries and Amazon. The Kindle edition is $4.61. It is also available on Audible for $1.99.    Dig in!

Contact Sandy Rogers at slrogers@idcnet.com if interested.

Below is a letter from the author.

Hi Sandy,

I’m delighted that your “Hags on Nags” (very, very funny!) is going to be reading The Whip for your Book Club read. I’m sure ‘Charley’ would love the creative name you all have come up with as I do! Please take a photo of the Club (on your horses, if you can all get into one shot –otherwise, a photo at the meeting would be lovely–I would like to put the picture on my facebook and/or website, if you all approve~

Per your request, I’ve enclosed some questions below, to possibly use for discussion. If there is anything else you or the group might need, do let me know.

Please give your Book Club my regards. As a favor to me, for those who like the book, I would be grateful for their reviews on Amazon and/or Barnes and Noble.

Warmest Regards,
Karen (Kondazian)

The HON Library…Check it Out!

No doubt the chilly temperatures find us all spending more time indoors.  Likewise, we’re probably spending more time in front of the television. Why not check out the DVDs that our club has available? Get your “horse fix” and learn something while you’re at it! Our club has a nice variety of DVDs that can be loaned to club members at no charge.  There are DVDs from Larry Whitesell for the gaited horse rider, as well as courses on Universal Horsemanship from Dennis Reis. We have “Correcting Problems on the Trail” from Clinton Anderson. There is also a series of DVDs from a former mounted police officer, Scott Hansen, dealing with topics such as Dealing with Dogs on the Trail, Self Defense for the Trail Rider, Making  Your Horse Road Safe and Improving your Balance and Feel using a Bareback Pad. Movies are available on loan to club members only.  Contact Kim at stevenkim@centurytel.net  if you wish to borrow from our HON library. Borrowers will pay postage costs. Borrowers are responsible for returning the DVDs within two weeks. Donated movies are welcomed also! Visit our website “Resources” link to find our Library. http://hagsonnags.com/gallery/dvdlibrary/. Check out the DVDs!

For Sale: 3 bottles of “Premium Garcinia Extract” weight management as touted all over Face Book. I paid $50 a bottle and will sell each for that price, the will include shipping. All bottles are sealed and have an expiration date of Jan.2015. It supports Appetite control, inhibits fat production and it is pure and potent. Calcium, Potassium and chromium are added along with the Garcinia extract. It comes in veggie capsule form. I took the supplement for 3 months and found that it helped metabolize my food. My cholesterol and trigs went down really fast. I did feel full after eating, but note, don’t over eat to begin with, the fullness comes on slowly, it did with me anyway. Unfortunately, I cannot take it any longer, as I have ulcerative colitis, and when that became somewhat active again, this supplement did not set will with me. I do have some food allergies, so I am thinking that was what really was going on. If you buy all three sealed bottles I will sell for a reduced price of: $125.00. That’s a $25 savings plus I will include shipping in that price. What a Deal! Rosemary Tietz call 920-326-3588 or email rosetz@centurytel.net

Upcoming Events

This is a tentative calendar of events and details or dates may change!  Be sure to contact the person organizing the event to stay updated, and if possible, join/decline/maybe the event on Facebook so you have it on your calendar and stay informed.  As always, you don’t have to camp to join in one of our camping weekends, dropping in for a day ride or potluck is just fine!  Each ride is different, but you can usually plan on groups riding out around 9-10 am and getting together for a pot luck dinner on Saturday around 5-6ish pm.  Often there will be other rides and activities going on, such as group movies, campfires, swimming, fish fry, etc, See the event coordinator for details. *NOTE* some events may be found on the “other events” section of our website calendar, if they are not a HON event.

Please watch our Facebook site for any updates and new events if possible, and use this great resource to connect with other riders, campers and just for fun events in general!
