A Note from your Happy Herdmare
I want to thank everyone for being so patient while I transitioned into the Herdmare position. A special thanks to Sandy Rogers, DeDe Nelson and Donna Meyer. These three ladies went out of their way to answer questions and help me out whenever needed. Another huge “Thank You” to all of you for responding back to the test emails I sent out. I almost have the list updated with everyone’s current information.
I have been still stalking my inbox for member pictures and bios. I have only received a handful of new ones. We have 186 members but we only have 53 bios on the web! Thank goodness for cell phones, we may have to start getting candid pictures! (Just kidding, but I would really like to get everyone on the Meet our Members page so new members can meet you through our website.) Speaking of our website. Wow, Sandy has done as awesome job with it and it’s only the beginning. There should be some more cool stuff coming, so keep checking it out!

It’s really important to me that everyone receives club emails. If you hear of a member that does not get my emails. Tell them to contact me directly. I will gladly make the change to get it fixed.
Mark your calendars – Our 2014 annual club meeting. It will be January 18th in Johnstown Community Center.
I hope to see you at Hagmania.
Have a safe, fun month full of happy trails!
Sheri

Noteworthy news:
Our website It’s taken awhile, but the website finally seems to be working with all browsers! If you haven’t visited our site, I encourage you to check it out. You can get there with either www.hagsonnags.com or www.hagsonnags.net There are lots of resources available through the different dropdowns menus, so do some exploring of the site! If you don’t see your bio under the “Meet Our Members” tab, please consider sending me a little write up and picture of yourself. I’d be happy to do updates, also. If you don’t remember the login and password for the member database, just contact me…no problem. If you have something you’d like to see added to the site in general, please let me know. To steal a line from 50 Shades of Grey…. “We aim to please!” It’s been a lot of fun for me to work on the site, so suggestions are always welcomed. You can contact me through the website or at slrogers@idcnet.com

Baraboo Area Proposed Trails need Equestrian Feedback!
Even though you may have already heard this message, we are sharing this again. It is possible that the DNR Parks office isn’t hearing from trail riders that they would like to have horseback riding trails in the proposed Sauk Prairie Recreation Area (former Badger Ammo Plant near Baraboo). If you haven’t taken the on-line survey, please do so ASAP. The deadline is THIS FRIDAY 8/30.
The link to the survey http://5.selectsurvey.net/DNR/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=885K7o4
The survey is a discussion type. Please take the time to address questions 4 and 9.

HON Christmas Party Update
The Christmas party will be at the Countryside Inn in Milton, off of 94, December 14th. Watch for details.

When Nature Calls (Submitted by Sandy Rogers)
The Southern Kettle Moraine trails are popular with many horse riders, including most Hags on Nags. If you’ve ridden out from Horse Riders’ Campground in Palmyra towards Eagle, you are probably familiar with a grassy area with a picnic table and hitching post. It’s a nice spot to take a break, stretch, maybe have a snack. Now, thanks to a joint effort between the Southern Kettle Moraine Horse Trail Association and our club, this rest spot is even better! For the next two months, you will find a PORTA POTTY there for your personal comfort. No more hiding behind the bushes when nature calls! The porta potty will only be there on a trial basis, so please let park rangers and club officers know how much it is appreciated. A special thanks to Ada Duffey for the time and effort it took to make this project happen. Enjoy!

Hagmania Fun Show / Pink Ribbon Ride Fundraiser Fair
This is the ONLY PRR fundraiser of 2013

We have a fun action packed day planned on September 29th. A few of our members have been really hard at work making the plans for this event. Please come and support a good cause. We are planning 10 fun classes. If you have a new or young horse, it’s a great event to bring them too. Last year’s high point winner was a yearling! This fun show is truly made for everyone! We will also have a silent auction, raffles and some carnival type games. Loads of great prizes, Food & Fun. There will also be sales tables from vendors who are club members. If you’re interested in a sales table. Please contact me ASAP at rhorsefarm@yahoo.com
We do need volunteers and donation items

If you haven’t already, please submit a photo and we can either use your paragraph below or you can submit a new one for the member’s bio on the website. Thank You, Sheri Roberson

Faith Kandler, Rubicon WI
I live in Rubicon, WI and have owned horses for 42 years. As far back as I can remember, I had always wanted a horse so my parents decided to surprise me with my first horse for my 8th grade graduation present and I’ve had at least one horse ever since. I have been married for 33 years and have two adult children. I currently work full time for the Village of Hartland and hope to retire in about 5 years or so. I currently own 3 senior horses: Barney is my 30 year old Paso Fino gelding, Coco is my 29 year old Paint mare and CB is my 24 year old Quarter Horse gelding. Due to health issues, all 3 are now “pasture ornaments” which they don’t mind at all! I absolutely love trail riding! I used to haul my horses to the Northern and Southern KM trails, Loew Lake and also did one trip to Spur of the Moment Ranch in Mountain which was a blast. Hopefully, some day I will be able to do that again when I get another riding horse. My reason for joining HON is to enjoy the friendship and camaraderie of other horse loving ladies and to hopefully hit the trails with them in the future. Happy Trails!

Upcoming Events
This is a tentative calendar of events and details or dates may change! Be sure to contact the person organizing the event to stay updated, and if possible, join/decline/maybe the event on Facebook so you have it on your calendar and stay informed. As always, you don’t have to camp to join in one of our camping weekends, dropping in for a day ride or potluck is just fine! Each ride is different, but you can usually plan on groups riding out around 9-10 am and getting together for a pot luck dinner on Saturday around 5-6ish pm. Often there will be other rides and activities going on, such as group movies, campfires, swimming, fish fry, etc, See the event coordinator for details. *NOTE* some events may be found on the “other events” section of our website calendar, if they are not a HON event.

Please watch our Facebook site for any updates and new events if possible, and use this great resource to connect with other riders, campers and just for fun events in general!
